14 Nov 2014 (World Diabetes Day)

We are honored to report to you that like the previous years; Afghanistan Diabetes Association (AfDA) with collaboration of the HALO Trust and DMC (Diabetes Management Center) has celebrated 14 November - The Word Diabetes Day in Kabul and Parwan provinces. In Kabul, AfDA has held several rallies and volleyball events as well diabetes screen camps, diabetes education sessions, and distribution of leaflets on healthy food, diabetic foot care, and importance of exercise in preventing type 2 diabetes in local languages in several districts of Kabul city and province. Several hundred men, women and children have taken part in today's events across the city. Also blue circles were made by the children and 15 minutes walking sessions were organized by AfDA. This is planned that more events will be organized by AfDA and DMC in the coming days in Kabul. The Ministry of Public Health of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan will hold a big gathering at MoPH headquarters in collaboration with WHO this coming Afghan week to mark 14 November. AfDA members had several interviews on Diabetes Awareness with local and international media including the BBC Dari and Pashtu services as well as Radio Free Europe (radio azadi) recently.

AfDA (Afghanistan Diabetes Association) was well represented in the IDF MENA RC meeting held 1st May in Muscat in the Kingdom of Oman on 1st May.  Dr Habib Gul Ayobi, member of AfDA has participated in various sessions of IDF MENA RC meetings.  The meeting was chaired by Prof Adel El Sayed, Manager of MENA Region.  The meeting has started with a presentation by Mrs. Petra Wilson, General Manager of IDF that was followed by other presentations. In addition IDF voting was done on a couple of subjects including

  • New Regulations of IDF
  • Discussion on Regional Congress in Egypt
  • MENA and EMRO agreement
  • MENA statement on sponsoring activities and joint meetings
  • Financial reports
  • MENA website
  • Discussions on next MENA meeting

 

This was a great opportunity for Afghanistan Diabetes Association to take part in this meeting and share experience with other colleagues from member associations of our region.  AfDA thanks IDF MENA region for the invitation and the excellent facilitation provided to all participants and outstanding organization of this very important occasion.
